Roots Vacuum Pump Working Principle

Roots vacuum pump, also known as mechanical booster pump, is a rotary positive displacement vacuum pump. The schematic structure of the Roots vacuum pump is shown in Figure on the left. There are two figure-8 rotors in the pump chamber, which are installed on a pair of shafts in parallel, and are driven by a pair of synchronous gear.
